BSIS studies and teaches martial sword traditions that arose in the Iberian peninsula from the 15th century to the late 19th century, which were also practised by people from Spain and Portugal who lived in the New World. These include the systems of fencing known as La Verdadera Destreza and La Esgrima Vulgar/Común.
